PSOM1110 : PSG Pattern Recognition

In this course students have the opportunity to read and interpret patterns seen during testing procedures. Students will learn how to score Polysomnograms, identify patterns displayed at variations in sensitivity, filter settings, paper speed, montages, and screen display. Students will apply clinical correlation to the disease process, patient’s clinical presentation, and the patterns displayed.

PSOM1112 : PSG Capstone

This course is designed as a capstone experience to facilitate final preparation for employment in polysomnographic technology and BRPT & RPSGT examination credentialing. Students will demonstrate knowledge and skill competency attainment expected of a polysomnographic technologist. Students will also be required to pass a comprehensive exam based on the current BRPT matrix.

PSOM1210 : Polysomnography I

Students learn basic principles and practices of polysomnography. This course and lab component includes specific polysomnographic terminology, instrumentation, patient setup, calibration, waveform recording, monitoring techniques, and required documentation.

PSOM1216 : Therapeutic Intervention

This course is designed to develop the advanced expertise required to perform high quality sleep studies including CPAP, BiPAP, BiPAP ST, ASV, AVAPS, iVAPS and supplemental oxygen under the supervision of clinical professionals. Students will be able to apply advanced testing techniques and handle complex types of sleep disorders demonstrating familiarity with pathophysiology, epidemiology and clinical guidelines for sleep disorders and treatment options. Alternative therapies will be discussed as well such as surgical and dental options.

PSOM1220 : PSG Clinical Preparation & Practice

Students will prepare to perform routine and advanced studies at the clinical sites, including proper performance of activation procedures. Students will also recognize patterns at various machine settings, and supply clinical correlation to the disease process, patient’s clinical presentation, and the patterns displayed.

PSOM1221 : Pharmacology for Health Careers

This course provides a study of drug classifications, actions, therapeutic uses, adverse effects, methods of administration, client education, and calculation of dosages.

PSOM1610 : Polysomnography

In this course, students will learn principles and practices of polysomnography. This course and lab component includes testing indicators, specific polysomnographic terminology, instrumentation, required documentation, the patient care process, as well as basic anatomy & physiology of cardiac, respiratory and neurologic systems as they pertain to PSG. In addition, students will take an in-depth look at the various sleep disorders including their classification, diagnosis and treatment. Students will learn the Practice Guidelines for Adult and Pediatric PSG, technical specifications and sleep report calculations, as well as the recording of bio-potentials and data acquisition storage.

PSOM2415 : PSG Clinical Experience I

Students report to a sleep lab for a supervised learning experience applying polysomnographic theory, skills, and concepts. Students perform, record, stage, and score sleep studies.

This course provides insight into specialized practices in polysomnography. The content emphasizes sleep disorders, medications, advanced testing techniques, analysis of data, and correlation to the established staging and scoring criteria.

PSOM2515 : PSG Clinical Experience

Students report to a sleep lab for a supervised learning experience applying polysomnographic theory, skills, and concepts. Students perform, record, stage, and score sleep studies. This course provides a health-related, work-based learning opportunity for students to perform specialized sleep studies. Students will get on-the-job experience to develop professionalism and implement previously discussed policies, procedures, and safety measures in a lab environment. Direct supervision is provided by clinical professionals.
